[Race Recap] DDRL @ SPA
After the challenges of the previous night race at Silverstone, the return to a sunlit track was a welcome change for many on the grid. The weekend's schedule saw an early Friday morning practice session before sunrise, leaving drivers somewhat in the dark—both literally and figuratively—when it came to track conditions. However, Saturday’s later qualifying session provided much-needed clarity as the sun broke through the trees, setting the stage for an intense Sunday morning race.
Qualifying was competitive, but Adam Krukowski once again proved why he is a force to be reckoned with, securing pole position with a commanding lap time of 2:25.417. Behind him, Ryder Thunderbolt posted a respectable 2:32.802, narrowly edging out Roehlke, who followed with a 2:32.960. Roehlke’s strong performance in qualifying put him in an excellent position to fight for a podium finish. Daniel Tramontana and Steve Danger rounded out the field with times of 2:33.840 and 2:40.155, respectively.
As race day dawned with a stunning sunrise, the grid prepared for one of the most intense races of the season. The opening laps were thrilling, with the pack staying bumper to bumper as they navigated the twists and elevation changes of Spa. Early incidents shuffled the field, allowing Roehlke to seize the lead with Tramontana close behind. However, Roehlke’s race would soon take a dramatic turn for the worse. Despite reassurances from his race engineers that his fuel strategy was sound, a low-fuel warning forced him to pit earlier than planned. With the pit window still minutes away, Roehlke had no choice but to stop twice, effectively ending his chances at a podium. Frustration over the miscalculation was evident over the radio, and he would ultimately finish last.
Meanwhile, Adam Krukowski delivered yet another dominant performance, leading a majority of the race with an iron grip on first place. Behind him, Daniel Tramontana put in an impressive drive, securing second place. Thunderbolt faced issues in the pit lane, costing him valuable time and ultimately placing him a lap and 15 seconds behind Tramontana in third. Steve Danger and Roehlke followed, bringing an end to a grueling but electrifying race weekend.
Spa lived up to its reputation as one of motorsport’s most unforgiving yet thrilling circuits. The mix of high-speed straights, technical corners, and unpredictable race strategies kept both drivers and fans on the edge of their seats. As the season nears its conclusion, teams are already looking ahead to the next challenge. With whispers of a league rebrand and new statistics, tracks, and even potential team changes, the future of the DDRL remains as exciting as ever.
